Members of WARA are part of the international community of scholars committed to advancing research in and about West Africa and the Diaspora. Established in 1989, WARA realizes its mission through organizing conferences and seminars, hosting summer faculty institutes, granting research fellowships, and maintaining a spacious and well-equipped research center in Dakar Senegal. As a member, you are eligible to participate in the activities of the WARA, to receive first-hand information about WARA grants and fellowships, and make use of the facilities of the West African Research Center (WARC) in Dakar, Senegal. WARA members receive the semi-annual WARA newsletter and are encouraged to submit articles, brief research reports, and commentary.

Membership Dues (USD)
Annual membership $55 (student rate $25); Lifetime membership $1,000
We encourage you to take out a multiple-year membership, or a lifetime membership.
2-year memberships are $90; and 5-year memberships are $225. For these multi-year options, please note the yellow subscribe option will not work, so we kindly ask you use the blue Network for Good button instead, while including in your payment a note that it is a multi-year membership.

WARA has 52 member institutions, including our first and current homes, Howard University and Boston University; Lafayette College; the University of Chicago; University of Illinois; Indiana University; UC Berkeley; UCLA; Yale and many others. Members have the support of WARC to organize study tours and professional development seminars in Senegal and are apprised of opportunities for hosting West African scholars, exhibits, and artists on their campuses.
