The research group gained of the years also an expertise in testing system in the field. Since 2003, an average of six field tests per year were conducted. Besides straight audio recordings from the sensors using high fidelity audio equipment, the systems were tested on-site under all kinds of weather conditions and acoustic scenarios. Over the years, a large library of acoustic sounds could be collected. These sound libraries are mainly used to test new system changes in the lab. This method allowed a quick turn around time of lab prototypes to fieldable prototypes which perform as expected in the field.
