MAP-Works Survey Results

This fall, the University Service Center conducted a two-part survey from Educational Benchmarking Inc. (EBI) called Making Achievement Possible (MAP) Works. The survey was offered to freshmen and a small group of sophomores. The surveys—administered in September and again in November—included questions about expectations, behaviors, and early experiences at Boston University.

After taking the initial survey, participants received a link to an individualized MAP-Works report, which allowed them to benchmark their responses against their peers.  Reports also provided a list of campus resources available to support and encourage students’ success. The goal is to provide, through the report, individualized feedback regarding students’ early transition, and to offer support and resources that may help them to succeed.  Data indicates that this early ability to benchmark one’s behaviors and expectations against peers can be helpful to students as they transition from high school to college.

We are now in the process of analyzing the data gained from the surveys, but in reviewing the comments students shared about the things they like the most and those they like least, some common themes emerged.  And for many students, the things they like the most are also among those they find most challenging.

Our thanks again to all the students who participated in our pilot program.  If  you have questions or would like to share feedback about MAP-Works or other aspects of your University experience, please give the USC a call at 617-358-1818.
