The Allen Pachtman Summer Research Award was established by a donation from Dr. Allen Pachtman, an alumnus of the BU College of Arts & Sciences. During the summer, an outstanding student in the biological or chemical sciences is selected to receive this award.

Project Title: Conformational Changes in Substrate Binding in the beta-Phosphoglucomutase Member of the HAD Superfamily
Project Significance: This research aims to uncover the basis of recognition of molecules central to cell metabolism and the removal of toxic metabolic by-products. As such, this research may uncover novel metabolic pathways that can be targeted for therapeutic intervention in certain human diseases.
