Dr. McArthur’s research agenda engages critical scholarship across the fields of media and cultural studies and urban schooling, and culturally relevant pedagogical approaches. Her dissertation documented the intersectionality of gender, race, and class in the lives of adolescent Black girls in and out of school settings, and the role of both parents and teachers in their identity construction and academic successes. Her research is also positioned where school, media, and youth cultures intersect.
