Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship (SURF)
The SURF program is a 10-week summer program for undergraduates, offering research projects in areas related to Biology and the control of gene expression for biological outcomes.
Summer Training as Research Scholars (STaRS)
The Division of Graduate Medical Sciences (GMS) offers a summer research program to academically talented students who aspire to become medical or research scientists. Members of groups traditionally underrepresented in biomedical sciences are particularly encouraged to apply.
Sankofa Scholars Undergraduate Research Program
The Sankofa Scholars Undergraduate Research Program offers exciting research opportunities for first and second year students across all majors. Scholars complete 5-10 hours of impactful research each week during the fall and spring semesters and can also participate in summer research.
Research Experience for Undergraduates – Astronomy (REU)
Student projects will expose undergraduate researchers to magnetic field phenomena in the universe, and include areas such as solar physics, auroral and ionospheric physics, and heliospheric science, as well as magnetic fields on stars, exoplanets, blazars, and clusters of galaxies.
Research Experience for Undergraduates – Integrated Nanomanufacturing (REU)
Students in this summer program will have the opportunity to do work hands-on laboratory research in a variety or engineering faculty laboratories.
Research Experience for Undergraduates – Chemistry (REU)
A summer program in Chemistry funded by the National Science Foundation (NSF), this summer program puts students to work on faculty-mentored research projects. Participants receive a weekly stipend and free on-campus housing. Applications are due in March.
Research Experience for Undergraduates – Bioinformatics (BRITE REU)
The BRITE REU at BU Bioinformatics focuses on computational and mathematical fundamentals of bioinformatics analysis through research projects in a broad range of topics. Participants receive a weekly stipend and free on-campus housing. Applications are due in March.
Summer Institute for Training in Biostatistics (SIBS)
The SIBS program is designed for undergraduates interested in mathematics, statistics, biology, or health sciences. Students receive classroom training and perform hands-on research with practicing biostatisticians, epidemiologists, and statistical geneticists. Costs (housing, tuition, meals, extra-curricular activities) are covered by the program.
Distinguished Summer Research Fellowship (DSRF)
The DRSF sponsors 10 College of Engineering students in faculty-mentored summer research. Students must maintain a 3.0 average to be eligible, and may participate during the summer following either sophomore or junior year.
Summer Term Alumni Research Scholars (STARS)
The College of Engineering undergrads engaged in full-time, faculty-mentored research during the summer may apply for STARS program. Participants receive housing in a BU residence hall or reimbursement for off-campus housing. To be eligible, students must receive a weekly stipend from an engineering faculty mentor to participate in full-time summer term research (summer courses are not allowed).
STEM Pathways is the outreach program of the Living Computing Project sponsored by the National Science Foundation’s Expeditions in Computing Program. The program focuses on providing academic and research experiences in the field of Synthetic Biology.
