Spinal Cord Injury Repair

Options: Independent Funding Available, Potential for Academic Credit

We have a part-time (~20 hrs. per week) medical research position open for students. We are a laboratory focused on neural repair after injury. Specifically, the study is investigating the neural repair after spinal cord injury. You would be working in the Department of Neurosurgery at Children’s Hospital Boston.

Main duties and responsibilities include: histological work, preparing solutions, data quantification/analysis, animal handling/post-operative care, animal behavior observation, experimental design/protocol troubleshooting, journal club presentation, and attending weekly lab meetings.

Qualifications include: a strong foundation in basic laboratory and note taking skills. Their schedule must be flexible. Some weeks can demand many hours for running experiments while other weeks may be very quiet in the lab. Must be able to work independently and show initiative, but must also be able to work well with others. Must demonstrate the ability to critically think/analyze and troubleshoot problems. Must pay attention to detail. Must have good communication skills. Must be able to use Microsoft Word/Excel/Powerpoint. Any previous experience with research animals is a plus.

We would need 2-3 references, two academic, one working experience (optional).
