This work centers around improving and maintaining the quality of soils used for urban agriculture and water for drinking purposes. There are several opportunities that are possible, depending upon the interest and education of the student. Data on the concentrations of lead, arsenic and other chemicals in soils, water and compost need compiling and evaluation, protocols for facilitating information about testing garden soils can be developed for dissemination to organizations and the general public, literature reviews of biosolid (sludge) use in compost, international approaches to mitigating or decreasing exposures to lead in soils, lead in water, and other topics.
