10-week summer program in a Rockefeller University laboratory. This program provides a unique opportunity for undergraduates to conduct laboratory research. The Summer Research Institute for Undergraduates is open to undergraduates at various stages in their young academic careers. Maria Mitchell Association – Undergraduate Research Summer Assistant
Students conduct research supervised by the Senior MMO staff. Current research areas include forming stars and planetary systems, unusual variable stars, astrophysical masers and lasers, and physics of comets. Students will take an observing trip to Arizona and New Mexico, where they observe for their individual or team projects with large optical and radio telescopes. Research emphasizes sate-of-the-art data reduction techniques and thoughtful physical I interpretation. All students will be helped to develop their skills for presenting results at conferences and in research papers. Stipend, travel, and housing provided.
