Gerstner Sloan-Kettering Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences – Summer Undergraduate Research Program (SURP)

Ten-week research program designed for undergraduate students who are interested in pursuing a career in biomedical sciences. In addition to the research, students attend a weekly seminar series which consists of scientific presentations by our faculty, career panels, and other topics such as research ethics. The students also have the opportunity to attend several professional development workshops such as Interview Skills, Presentation Skills, etc.  Stipend and housing provided.

BROAD Institute of MIT and Harvard – Summer Research Program in Genomics

The Summer Research Program in Genomics is designed for non-graduating underrepresented minority undergraduate students with an interest in genomics and biomedical research.  Students will spend the summer in a laboratory at the Broad Institute, where they will perform original scientific research.  The program also features components to support both academic and scientific growth, including scientific seminars, a journal club, and workshops on scientific writing, graduate admission, and fellowships.  Housing, travel, and stipend are provided.

University of Washington School of Dentistry – Summer Medical and Dental Education Program
8-week program designed to provide students from minority and/or disadvantaged backgrounds with a thorough exposure to the medical and dental school application and admissions process, while providing them with the tools they will need to increase their competitiveness for medical and dental school. Housing, stipend, and travel allowance provided.

Stony Brook University – AGEP (Alliance for Graduate Education and the Professoriate)
8-week program designed to provide a wide range of services to underrepresented minority doctoral students in the STEM fields as well as to the STEM departments and graduate programs.

United Negro College Fund – Merck Undergraduate Science Research Scholarship Awards
8-10-week summer internship program for African American undergraduate students who are interested in science to further their science education and potentially pursue science careers. Housing, stipend and travel allowance provided.

The University of Utah – REU Integrative Biology for Undergraduates
9-week program for Students who come from underrepresented backgrounds and from institutions with limited research opportunities. Students accepted to the Program will have the opportunity to choose from a wide variety of projects that employ molecular techniques. Housing, stipend, and travel allowance provided.

The University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas – Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowships (SURF)
10-week program desgiend to provide an intensive research training experience that leads to an understanding of the planning, discipline, and teamwork involved in the pursuit of basic answers to current questions in the biological sciences. Fellows will pursue individual research projects under the direction of a member of the graduate school faculty. Housing and stipend provided.

Texas Tech University – Summer Accelerated Biomedical Research (SABR) Program
10-week program designed to give undergraduate students experience in biomedical research in a laboratory at the Texas tech University Health Sciences Center. Participants will work elbow-to-elbow with scientists working on the cutting edge of biomedical research. Stipend provided.

University of Texas – Biomedical Summer Undergraduate Research Experience
10-week program that offers summer support to students currently in engineering, mathematics, computer, physical, or chemical science tracks to explore the wealth of opportunities provided in the biomedical sciences. Housing, stipend, and travel allowance provided.

Vanderbilt University – Vanderbilt Summer Science Academy
8-week program that offers biomedical research opportunities to undergraduates who want to pursue a career in the biomedical sciences. Although each participating program operates independently, the academy unites students to provide them with opportunities for academic and social interaction.
