Gonzales – Social Work
Options: Volunteer Basis, Potential for UROP Funding
We are looking for an individual who can create and maintain a website that is interactive, contains uploaded research, is geared toward all ages and minorities (i.e. user friendly), and offers an area for people who visit the site to post their experience(s) in 140 characters or less. The website will focus on issues of discrimination—namely ageism, sexism, racism in the workplace and in community settings. The hope is to utilize other social media as well (i.e. Twitter, Facebook) to reach out to these populations. The accounts will be created, launched and maintained by this research assistant. Our goal is to have the website up and running by the end of spring semester 2014.
Ideally we are looking for a junior in the communication department, but we are willing to consider and accept anyone if the right candidate comes along. It is important that this candidate fits well with our team as we will have hour long, biweekly team meetings. The right candidate should also be able to work independently as well; be self-driven; with excellent oral and written communication skills.
The job will begin the spring semester 2014, and will require a 10-hour commitment per week. This will ideally be a two-year position if the candidate is a good fit with the research team. Our research team fully supports this individual’s research endeavors, and is willing to aide this candidate in his or her research (i.e. use of data, guidance, etc.) as deemed appropriate.
