Evaluation of Project BRIGHT II (Building Resilience through Intervention: Growing Healthier Together) and NESST (Newborns Exposed to Substances: Support and Treatment)

Position Description and Responsibilities:
The Boston University School of Social Work evaluation team, led by Professor Ruth Paris, is looking for a part-time (5-10 hrs/wk) Research Assistant (RA) to assist with the evaluation of Project BRIGHT II and/or Project NESST. Both interventions address the needs of mothers in substance use treatment and their young children. The research team currently evaluates program activities, interventions, methods, and implementation to assess the projects’ overall effectiveness. Project BRIGHT II evaluation staff are collecting data on child development, history and symptoms of trauma in both parent and child, and parental stressors, which will be used as part of the evaluation. NESST evaluation staff are analyzing qualitative data from a needs assessment and building a new evaluation project as the intervention is developed. Data collected during the evaluation studies will contribute to a greater clinical understanding of the impact of parental substance use and trauma on young! children and to the development of effective evidence-based dyadic practice models.

The RA will assist with various research assignments, which may include general computer work and office duties, preparing packets for interviews, data entry, transcribing interviews, cleaning data and transcripts, coding interviews, preparing abstracts and manuscripts, and attending weekly team meetings. There will be other opportunities to become involved in the projects in a variety of ways.
