The Donald D. Durrell Reading and Writing Clinic (RWC) at the School of Education serves students in elementary through high school who experience difficulty with reading and writing. After an initial evaluation of a student’s literacy-based strengths and needs, an individualized tutoring plan is created for each student and implemented during instructional sessions designed to improve reading and writing proficiency.
During the summer of 2013, the RWC will be continuing its work on a research project to examine a video-based model for coaching teachers in more comprehensive and strategic use of teacher talk. The project requires support from the research assistant for all research phases, including videotaping and audiotaping tutoring and coaching sessions; transcribing tapes, compiling relevant instructional data and samples of student work; cataloguing student outcome data; and data coding and analysis.
We anticipate using this information for conference presentations and publication.
