Bio:

Bart was born in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, to a Dutch father and an American mother, and as such has developed a tried-and-tested system for verbally dismissing not-so-well-thought-out questions regarding that country's permissive social attitudes and law enforcement policies. He has lived in the Netherlands, Lower Saxony and Bavaria (both in Germany), as well as Rhode Island, Arizona, and Florida, where he continues to live in fear of the other drivers sharing the road with him. At times he is tempted to explain his frequent moves by claiming his family is part of an incredible wandering musical act known as "THE UNDUTCHABLES," but that would be lying. As a result of his extensive moving, he now speaks Dutch, English, German, and Spanish.

Bart is kind of a geek, and chances are that he can fix your computer simply by being near it. He also reportedly dreams in HTML (just kidding). He wrote his first computer program when he was four years old. He is proficient in HTML, XML, CSS, JavaScript, MySQL databases, and PHP, and has been programming for 16 years. In his spare time he helps in planning, designing, and deploying various different websites for private clients. He also enjoys writing database-driven content rotation systems when nobody's looking.

His favorite pasttimes include seeing how fast he can solve a fully scrambled Rubik's cube (his current record is 1 minute and 19 seconds), white-water rafting, rock climbing, holding philosophical conversations until 4:30 in the morning, watching the movie Hackers with his other geek friends and making fun of it repeatedly, beating 98% of his opponents at Scrabble, and traveling the world until school starts again.

This year Bart plans to increase traffic to the Student Union website by adding content, calendars, and other useful sources of knowledge for everything going on with the Student Union and around campus. He plans to make bu.edu/union a site so useful and full of information that BU students will actually want to bookmark it. He is very open to suggestions and comments, and would love to hear from any BU students regarding the Union website or its content.

Happy web-surfing!
