“One BU: Integrating the Undergraduate Experience”: A Task Force on Undergraduate Education
Central to and extending from the BU Strategic Plan, a task force on undergraduate education, chaired by the Associate Provost for Undergraduate Educationb, began its discussions during the Fall of 2008, and is charged with understanding how we can “unlock” undergraduate education at BU, allowing students to explore the abundance of curricular riches at this university.
Like the many projects and initiatives described in this site, the task force will examine how the undergraduate experience can be both disciplinary as well as pluralistic, integrated, and interdisciplinary. We will seek to understand, conceptually, what constitutes a general education requirement for all undergraduates, independent of program or school, and we will build models to show how such a foundation can be built—pedagogically and administratively.
The"One BU" Task Force is composed of prominent members of BU's professoriate, including Robert Bone (Law), John Caradonna (Chemistry), Hardin Coleman (Dean, SED), David Eckel (Director, Core), Kenn Elmore (Dean of Students), Janelle Heineke (Management; Center for Excellence in Teaching), Susan Jackson (Assoc. Dean, CAS; French), Joellen Masters (CGS), Melanie Matthies (Sargent) Greg McDaniel (Engineering), Hugh O'Donnell (Painting), Patrice Opplinger (Communications), Laurie Pohl (VP, Enrollment and Student Affairs), Nancy Smith-Hefner (Anthropology), Drew Phillips (student member, SMG), Robyn Fialkow (student member, CAS).
This site will be used to post reports, inspire discussion, and generally to communicate our thoughts and actions to the BU community.
