Course Search

Course Description Search seizes upon and empowers the most fundamental unit that drives every engine of data retrieval: the keyword. The engine searches keywords embedded in the over 7,000 course descriptions throughout the Undergraduate and Graduate Bulletin, resulting in a list of courses in which there is common content, albeit from different perspectives. For example, a simple search of “Latin America” turns up the fact that a student interested in Latin American studies can take courses dealing with this topic in more than ten departments. The ramifications of this type of search are potentially impressive: courses of inter- and multi-disciplinary content across the University can be located within seconds; the construction and development of programs or minors will be facilitated through the ability to find analogous courses. Finally, Course Search is useful for prospective students who can quickly see how certain topic areas are “unpacked” across the University.
