Grants for Undergraduate Teaching and Scholarship (GUTS): Annual Grants

Faculty (both full- and part-time) are encouraged to apply for funds for use in the teaching of undergraduate courses during the Fall and Spring 2009-2010 semesters, or to employ undergraduate students in the development or revision of courses.

These grants are designed to promote a deeper culture of research—or “inquiry-based learning”—in undergraduate courses on topics across the academic spectrum, from fine arts to the sciences, and to deepen the understanding of research among undergraduates through giving undergraduate students research experience. Some examples of how the funds might be used are as follows:

Awards will generally amount to between $500-$1500, with an upper limit of $2000.

Applications (of no longer than three pages) should include a clear description of the project and research outputs, a summary of how the funds will be used, and the names of the participants. Applications should be sent by 20 August 2009 to:

Fellowship and Scholarships

The Boston University Fellowships & Scholarships Office coordinates student, faculty, and alumni applications for external fellowships, scholarships, awards, and prizes requiring University nomination, endorsement, or review. Other opportunities may be available through deans' offices, department offices, and BU Financial Assistance. Undergraduate research opportunities are announced by the Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program. Faculty opportunities are announced through BU Sponsored Programs.

Undergraduate Research Opportunities (UROP): Annual Grants

The Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program (UROP) facilitates participation by BU undergraduates in faculty-mentored research across all disciplines. UROP also provides financial support for summer research fellowships, academic year stipends, research supplies, and travel for research or to professional meetings. UROP funds are awarded competitively to students who write grant proposals for Fall, Spring, and Summer funding rounds.
