Aharon Appelfeld

Appelfeld, Aharon

Aharon Appelfeld was born in Czernowitz, Bukovina, in 1932. A Holocaust survivor and post-war refugee, he made his way to Italy before immigrating to Israel. This graduate of Hebrew University is now a professor of Hebrew Literature at Ben Gurion University of the Negev. He began publishing poetry in 1959; his upcoming book, A Table for One: Under the Light of Jerusalem, will be available in April, 2005. Appelfeld has received the Israel Prize, and he is a winner of the National Jewish Book Award.
