As expected, B.J. Gary put away the opposition early in the weight throw,
strengthening his claim to being
one of the best throwers in the East. Fellow weightman, Chris
Ferrara, followed suit and up ended the field,
winning the shot put. Meanwhile, on the track, Jason Borbet and
Fredrik Naalsund went one-two in the 5000,
with Jordan Jones also adding a point in sixth. Steve Deppe grabbed
the lead in the 400 meters, and fought
off challenges down the backstraight, round the last curve, and on
into the homestraight to claim victory. Later
on in the meet, he would team up with Brian Irwin, Eugene Roundtree,
and Chris Brandon to win the 4x4 in
3:17.16. Paul Morrice narrowly missed winning the mile by a few
inches, while Liam Revell placed sixth in the
same event. Brian Irwin, prior to leading off the winning 4x4,
placed third in the 500, while Sean Clancey nailed
down sixth in that event. Sean teamed up with Greg Parassio,
Paul Morrice, and Paul Ryan to help the team
to a fourth place finish in the 4x8. Fredrik Naalsund added another
second in the 3000 to the one he had in the
5000 to lead BU scorers with 16 points. Carlos Cox turned in
two third place finishes in the 55 meter and 200
meter sprints. Chris Brandon followed up a fourth place finish
in the 200 with a brilliant anchor leg to preserve
the men's victory in the 4x4.

Women's Results I Men's Results
In a classic college showdown, Boston University and the University
of Vermont battled their way through 22
events and entered the final event of the day, the 4x400 meter relay,
such that whichever team finished ahead of
the other would claim the conference title. As close as the scoring
was, the race itself wasn't decided until the
final few meters, with the University of Vermont ending B.U.'s bid
to win its third indoor crown in succession.
A number of athletes show tremendous competitive spirit. Examples abound,
such as Rachel Felton who
quadrupled in the mile, 500, 1000, and 4x800 (winning all!),Alicia
Heisel who tripled in the 5000, 3000, and
4x800 (winning all!), Kathryn Ireland who ran second right behind Rachel
in the mile and 1000 and ran a great
leg on the 4x800 relay. Lauren Matthews and Jennifer Kehoe also showed
tremendous heart in completing the
tough 5k, 3k double. Caroline Occean won the 800 and ran an excellent
leg on the 4x4. Tara Johnson ran tough
in the mile, the 800, and 4x800.Andrea Stuermer executed her specialty
with characteristic proficiency. Mary
Ellen Bingham, pb'd and scored in the long jump, placed second in the
triple, and then ran a gutsy leg on the 4x4.
Lauren Warman competed gamely in both the 400 and 4x4.Frosh Julia Nazzer
gave her all on the anchor leg of
the 4x4. The coaches felt extremely proud of the competitive efforts
made by the team in what was one of the
most exciting America East meets to date.
Honored for her exploits in winning the mile in 4:54, the 500 in 1:16,
the 1000 in 2:51, and anchoring the 4x800
in
2:13, Rachel Felton was named Outstanding Performer of the Meet.
