After four years of college and the crew team at Boston University, Amanda Schenck (CAS’07) and Jessica Hayden (CAS’07) weren’t ready to enter what they referred to as “the real world.” But it’s hard to get any more “real” than an 18-hour bus ride in Brazil, or a trip to Hampi, a village in Karnataka, India, that ends when your shoes are stolen.

Schenck and Hayden set off on a year of travel in November 2007 and have blogged about each stop on their journey at amandaandjess.blogspot.com. So far, they’ve hit Lima, Peru; Quito, Ecuador; Buenos Aires, Argentina; Sao Paulo, Brazil; Los Angeles, California; Auckland, New Zealand; Melbourne, Cairns, and Sydney, Australia; and Mumbai, India. As of last Wednesday, they were relaxing on the beach in Ton Sai, Thailand.

“There are tons of activities to do including rock climbing, kayaking, and hiking,” Amanda wrote in her last post. “Yesterday we took a day trip to Kho Phi Phi, the island where the movie The Beach was filmed. We got to go snorkeling and checked out the site, which is preserved by the government. No one is allowed to live there, which is nice because everything around here is getting so built up and touristy … that’s all for now ... I have to go eat sticky rice and watch the sunset. Yes, my life is awesome.”

The next stops on the their itinerary are Hong Kong, Shanghai, Beijing, and Dubai. To read about their experiences, and see what they’ve been carrying on the trip with them, visit their blog.

Actually, that picture is of

Actually, that picture is of myself AND Amandita (as she's known in S. America), or Amandar (in Australian). I know, she's changed quite a bit with a new diet and lots of Brazilian sun.

Amanda worked her butt off during the summer waiting tables to pay for the trip and Jess pedi-cabbed in Boston. They don't have any sponsors. -Lindsey (a friend)

Question...

This trip sounds amazing. I love to do something like this one day myself. How do you pay for the trip? Do you guys have some type of sponsors or what?
