Former four-term Boston Mayor Kevin White (1968-84), who presided over the city during court-ordered busing to desegregate the public schools, died Friday at 82. After retiring from politics, White was the director of BU's Institute for Political Communication from 1984 to 2002. His funeral will be held tomorrow at 11 a.m. at St. Cecilia's Church in the Back Bay. The service is open to the public. Photo by Kalman Zabarsky
Greetings from Sydney. I am very sorry to hear this news. As a political science undergraduate from the UK on his long vacation, I lived in Boston in the summer of 1970. I recall meeting Mayor White and I was most impressed with the trouble he took in explaining to a youngster (then from England) the intricacies of Boston politics! He was courteous, kind and well informed. I regard him as a “model mayor” for a big city.
