Pristine, lustrous, futuristic — not to mention colossal. BU’s Student Village II is the newest addition to the Boston skyline. With finishing touches being applied right now, StuVi2 (as everyone calls the new high-rise towers) will open for fall semester. At 26 stories, it’s half the height of the Prudential Center Tower, and that’s just one of the intriguing pieces of info about it.

Here’s a rundown, by the numbers:

Number of pieces of structural steel: 9,273 (3,712 tons)
Number of cubic yards of concrete: 7,000
Number of elevators: 5
Number of square feet of carpet: 342,173
Number of residents: 975
Number of toilets: 288
Number of smoke detectors: 2,500
Time since initial planning process: 3½ years
Number of jobs created: 670
Approximate number of hours worked on site: 600,000

Sweet

can't wait to move in in a couple of weeks!

View from My Window

I have had the pleasure of watching this project from my office window. Some days were small additions to the building, and others would be extensive facade changes. It was great to relive it with the video.

when will the law tower

when will the law tower re-built?

Re: What type of camera did you

The Technical Operations department (part of The Media Group) installed a time lapse camera on the rooftop of one of the west campus dorms to record the construction process (which they do for most new construction projects at the university). Traditionally, these are super-VHS records - which apparently is now an obsolete format. BU Productions digitized the S-VHS tapes into our Avid edit system and Chris cut the piece. BU Productions got the final, current shot of the building, which was recorded on DVCAM tape.

Very cool

Another entertaining and fun creation from BU Today. Great job!
