| UBurger Got a red meat craving? Here’s some satisfaction |
If you don’t venture beyond the GSU for lunch, you must be getting tired of the same deli sandwiches day after day. To satisfy that primal urge for a burger — a real burger — head up Comm Ave or down to Kenmore Square until you find the meat-eater’s haven known as UBurger. ...Read more |
| B. Good Could B. better — healthy, but taste is lacking |
A burger is my default meal when I don’t know what to order at a restaurant — it’s usually the one item you can trust, and when done right, burgers are so good. Yeah, they’re a quick way to clog your arteries, but I’ll take my chances and continue looking for a patty of juicy cow meat (sorry, vegetarians) overflowing with toppings any day. B. Good, a local restaurant chain with a catchy name, is making big promises — a restaurant that would fill the need in the Boston area for healthy food offered quickly and inexpensively. ...Read more |
| C is for Cookie Where to find Boston’s best chocolate chip treats |
In my opinion, the chocolate chip cookie, when executed perfectly, is characterized by crisp edges and a soft middle, with rich bittersweet chocolate and a slightly salty, buttery finish. This iconic cookie provides the perfect end-of-meal treat, portable snack, or if you’re like me, an obsession to be consumed in large quantities at any time of day. This year, we embarked on a citywide quest to find what we would deem Boston’s Best Chocolate Chip Cookie. ...Read more |
| La Verdad Taqueria Iron Chef’s cuisine is within reach at Lansdowne taqueria |
I’ve wanted to sample the cuisine of Boston celeb chef Ken Oringer for a long time. The recent Iron Chef winner is the culinary mastermind behind lauded local restaurants Clio, Uni, and KO Prime, an upscale steakhouse. Unfortunately, my wallet lacks the same powers of expansion as my stomach, so my forays into his cuisine had previously been confined to drooling over menus. When a friend told me about La Verdad, Oringer's authentic Mexican taqueria, I went straight to the online menu ...Read more |
| No Name Restaurant Small seafood spot boasts real Boston cuisine |
Freshman year, I was determined to have my birthday dinner at one of Boston’s seafood restaurants. But I chose the Legal Seafoods in the Prudential Center for my first foray into the cuisine New England is famous for. I arrived home for break to discover that the unique Boston restaurant I had visited had just opened in my local mall. In Pennsylvania. So when friends began to recommend No Name Restaurant, an affordable, bona fide local seafood institution tucked away in Boston’s Seaport District since 1917, I knew the time had finally come to try the real thing. ...Read more |
| Shabu-Zen An interactive cooking process offers tasty, creative dining |
As I sat at my booth at Shabu-Zen, chopsticks poised, I realized that I had a problem. Confronted with mounds of fresh food, and two types of bubbling broth to cook all of it in, I froze. I had no clue where to begin. I am a rookie when it comes to the Japanese hot pot dining style known as Shabu-shabu. But I caught on quickly to the interactive cooking process, which offers a social, creative experience that entertains even the most awkward of first dates ...Read more |
| Grasshopper Clever flavors make vegan spot appeal to all |
As a vegetarian, finding flavorful food in a meat-lovers' world can be a challenge. So it was a delight to dine at Grasshopper, a vegan restaurant where “the animals live to tell it all,” according to the menu. I could order anything without worrying about the broths, oils, or utensils used in preparing — a rare treat. But don’t worry, omnivores: Grasshopper specializes in preparing Asian dishes made to taste and look like chicken, beef, and seafood, so you can humor your vegetarian friends without feeling deprived. ... | Bleacher Bar The food is good, the view is better at this Fenway hole in the wall |
Let’s get the hyperventilating over with right away: You can watch the Red Sox at Fenway with no tickets! You can see right onto the field! You can smell the outfield grass! I’ll admit it: I’m a little giddy about the Bleacher Bar, a new spot that’s built into the side of Fenway Park, just as advertised — under the bleachers. It’s a small, dimly lit place, accessible from Lansdowne Street, with cool Sox memorabilia, and a view that kills, thanks to a garage-door-sized window that looks out at center field ... Read more |
| Boca Grande Kenmore Square location’s menu is big and cheap |
When you walk into Boca Grande Taqueria, the first thing you’ll see is the overwhelmingly (and unexpectedly) large menu. If you’re not making a beeline for one of the regular or extra-large burritos, take a moment to look over the selection of quesadillas, enchiladas, tamales, tacos, and meat and vegetarian platters. The ingredients are fresh, the portions are large and served quickly, and spice fiends, rejoice! ... Read more |
| Audubon Circle Bar and Restaurant South Campus bar offers an alternative to Lansdowne |
It’s tucked away so well that you could easily miss it; I didn’t discover Audubon until someone in the know brought me there. But Audubon Circle Bar and Restaurant’s mystique is part of the appeal: this South Campus hideaway, removed from the frenetic bars and restaurants of Lansdowne Street, serves as the perfect place for a relaxed Sunday morning brunch or a chill late night out... | Boston Beer Works Stick with starters at this Fenway spot |
I spent almost four years at BU attempting to avoid Lansdowne Street’s sports bars and clubs — not an easy task for someone who goes to BU and lives minutes from Fenway Park. But Boston Beer Works finally pulled me in: I had heard too many good things about the restaurant and brewery to stay away any longer... Read more |

| Spike’s Junkyard Dogs Allston spot offers up all-American junk food |
![]() |
I’m a Midwestern girl, so charcoal-grilled Oscar Mayer wieners were as much a staple of my childhood summers as ice cream trucks and running through sprinklers. I consider myself, if not fluent, at least proficient in hot dog appreciation. So when I found out that the restaurant franchise Spike’s Junkyard Dogs was boasting of the “world’s best hot dog,” I knew I needed to judge that statement for myself... Read more |
