Boston Calling Hosts Block Party Today

Whiskey Barrel Band brings their rock-and-roll sound to Dewey Square Park

If you missed this year’s Boston Calling Music Festival in May, you can still take advantage of their free weekly block parties featuring great local bands, adult beverages, and games every Thursday through August 30. The weekly concert series takes place from 5 to 8 pm at Dewey Square Park on the Rose Kennedy Greenway. The event is 21+ only.

Today’s concert features Boston-based Whiskey Barrel Band whose rock-and-roll sound has been influenced by musicians like Johnny Cash, The Clash, and Led Zeppelin. Band members include vocalist and guitarist Jack Henault, guitarist Trevor Murdock Girard, drummer Joe Mackenzie, and bassist Brad Airey. Their first album, Black Sheep, is currently available on Spotify and their next recording Last of Our Youth, is set to be released later this month for download and streaming.

Chances are the evening will be a warm one. If it is, you can quench your thirst at the cash bar, which offers an array of alcoholic drinks, including Miller Lite, Two Hats Lime, Blue Moon Belgian White, Leinenkugel’s Summer Shandy, Rose, and Henry’s Hard Sparkling Water.

Dewey Square Park is a great place to spend a summer evening. The space includes gardens and lawn areas with tables and chairs and is just a short walk from South Station.

The Boston Calling Block Party takes place each Thursday from 5 pm to 8 pm from May through August at Dewey Square Park, 600 Atlantic Avenue, Boston. The concerts are free and open to the public, and are 21+ only. Find a complete list of this summer’s concerts here. Check out the Boston Calling Block Party’s Facebook page to stay up-to-date on weather cancellations.
