  1. Being a student who got his first tattoo as an 18th birthday present, I love seeing other people’s artwork. I’m glad tattoos are becoming less “taboo” in a sense. Great article

  2. Obsessed with this article. Incredibly well done and the photography is amazing!
Definitely left me wanting more – would love to see this as a series in the future.

  3. I love this article- it’s very personal and brings a level of vibrancy to the people who attend and work on campus. I’d like to point out that not every tattoo has a story behind it- some people just get ’em for the hell of it- and that’s an OK way to approach body mods too!

    1. This is a great insight into people decisions for tattoos and what inspires them to get something that they carry with them at all times. Great stuff.

  4. Outstanding highlight of those associated with the school and their ink. As a Navy sailor and grad student with BU, I can completely relate to this. At least 1/4 of my body is don and am still moving forward. Looking forward to the next installment.

  5. I’m so excited that this was a feature of the BU website. I am also a BU student and although I only have 3 large tattoos, I have plans for more. I love that I get to express what means so much to me and carry the art and feelings with me forever.

  6. I really enjoyed this article! Growing up, my opinions on tattoos have changed greatly, but I do come from a family that really does not appreciate tattoos, so it’s always been a bit more conservative. However, seeing these beautiful works of art that are imbued with so much significance and being someone who loves art so much opens my mind more and more to the art form that is tattoos.

  7. I find ‘body art’ interesting but also self indulgent. Is it rude to stare at peoples tats – I feel self conscious trying to decipher what in the heck I’m looking at? To me, most of it is cheesy, low brow, fadish crap.

  8. This is absolutely beautiful. Such an intimate thing to share, and reading this brought a tear to my eye. I also have body art that means the world to me. This article touched my soul.
