Charles River and Medical Campuses closed Sunday

As yet another winter storm approaches and the MBTA has announced a shutdown of all service on Sunday, February 15, both the Charles River Campus and the Medical Campus are closed on Sunday. The storm is expected to drop another 10 to 14 inches Saturday evening through Sunday with up to 20 inches in spots. Blizzard conditions with zero visibility are expected on Sunday, with windchills as low as 25 degrees below zero. A citywide parking ban is in effect from 10 p.m. Saturday and will remain in effect through Sunday.

Marsh Chapel: The Interdenominational Protestant University service at 11 a.m. Sunday will be held as scheduled. February 15 is Transfiguration Sunday, and the sermon is High Peaks: Sources of Religious Insight. The Marsh Chapel Choir, with Scott Jarrett conducting, will sing two anthems. Only those who can easily and safely get here should try to come, and others are encouraged to listen on WBUR or the WBUR podcast. The regularly scheduled 12:30 p.m. and 6 p.m. Catholic masses at Marsh Chapel will take place; the 10 p.m. mass has been canceled.

MBTA: The MBTA has announced that all late-night T service (1 a.m. to 2:30 a.m.) will be suspended on Saturday. All Medical, Physician Assistant, and Graduate Medical Sciences students who are assigned to inpatient services or clinics are expected to be present if possible. Find detailed Medical Campus information here.

BU Shuttle (the BUS): Saturday daytime BUS service will operate on a normal schedule. The Saturday late-night service will run until 9 p.m. and is likely to be canceled on Sunday because of poor visibility and road conditions. Monday late-night service is expected to begin as scheduled at 10:05 pm. When the roads are covered with snow, there will be no large articulated buses running. They may be replaced with nonwrapped coach-style buses. When this occurs, GPS tracking will not be available. Any delays in service or service cancellations will be posted on the BUS website and tweeted from @BUshuttle. Please dress appropriately.

Parking: Students, faculty, and staff on the Charles River Campus are urged to refrain from parking in any of the University’s outside lots or alley spaces so that these locations can be properly cleared and maintained. Hi Paula

I work for Student Activities and we’ve been discussing this particular storm over the past few days. At this time the organizers of the event have not canceled. From what we’ve been informed, the heaviest portion of the storm is expected from midnight until 6pm Sunday.

Hey Paula! I’m Emma, the social media director of In Achord (the group hosting the ICCA Quarterfinal at BU tonight). As Varsity Vocals is the organization in charge of the event, I recommend that you get in touch with Emily Flanders. Her email is emily@varsityvocals.com. We wish you and your children the safest travel and the best of luck tonight!

  • Prof on 02.15.2015 at 12:12 pm

Do we know anything about what parking lots are likely to be clear on Monday? I know BU is closed, but it would be useful to be able to come in anyway.

    • Art Jahnke, BU Today on 02.15.2015 at 4:03 pm

Most lots will be clear by Monday. Kenmore and Granby lots will be open and attended as well as Warren Towers, Arena and Babcock garages.

It’s time to transfer to ASU in Phoenix!

  • Barry on 02.15.2015 at 3:14 pm

Actually does anyone know if the school tours are still on. We know the school is closed but wondering about the tours for new students

    • Sonya on 02.15.2015 at 4:06 pm

You should call the Admissions office to check at 617-353-2300. The school doesn’t usually know whether they will close until the evening the day before.

You can also call the BU Emergency Closing line (617-353-SNOW) which will have a prerecorded message letting you know if the university is open or closed due to snow. If the school is officially closed, there won’t be any tours either.

  • Law Student on 02.15.2015 at 9:58 pm

The School of Law is supposed to have makeup Tuesday classes tomorrow and I know some professors from Monday classes have also scheduled makeup sessions (which is a whole other problem with conflicts). Do you know yet whether the school will be open? I’m not currently in Boston, so I’m not sure what the conditions around school are. With most of the school closed otherwise for the holiday, we aren’t sure where to find out whether or not makeup classes will be held.

Sorry for any typos, I’m sending this from my phone.

  • Shatha on 02.17.2015 at 10:24 pm

Is classes will not close tomorrow? The B line from Packards to BC won’t work, neither trains nor buses. What we should do?
