  1. How will these students be prepared for their return to the BUMC which primarily serves vulnerable and underserved populations with many barriers to their care? Does the Kaiser Permanente group have a mission statement that closely aligns to that of BMC? I fear that training at Kaiser in the third year sets these students up for difficulty in their fourth year as the patient population and functioning of the two sites are very different.

  2. Thank you very much for your questions. We performed extensive analysis and development prior to the initiation of this Kaiser program to ensure that it would be valuable for our students. We are thrilled with the opportunities that our BUSM students have to rotate at BMC and at numerous outside institutions. This exposes them to various patient populations and information technology systems. The students have clinical rotations during both of their third and fourth years which allow for variable opportunities. The Kaiser program students have been thrilled to participate in this voluntary program.
