  1. Kurkjian can characterize the thieves as ‘artless,’ like sophomores breaking into the Computer Lab. and so on. BUT the evidence says otherwise. It says they had a plan, executed it and left with 13 masterpieces. How can you call the artless, when they took only 13 masterpieces. To me that says – ‘artful. Hardly a ‘sophomoric’ stunt. He knocks the fact that they cut several paintings right out of the frame. IMHO, that’s a stroke of generous. Why try to ‘horse’ out framed pictures? Not much fun to haul through the dark halls of the Gardener Museum at 3 AM. The plan was, if anything, brilliant. Cut out the canvas and simply roll it up. Then with several rolled masterpieces neatly tucked under the arm, they made a successful exit.

    To summarize, maybe they are bad people, evil, criminal, even possibly ugly, etc., but hardly stupid. In fact, it would appear that they were very clever, and planned quite well. And remember, the artwork is still missing.
