    epitaph: a phrase or statement written in memory of a person who has died, esp. as an inscription on a tombstone.

    epithet: an adjective or descriptive phrase expressing a quality characteristic of the person or thing mentioned.

    Riley Cooper was shouting racial epithets, unless the person he was talking about was dead.

    Aside from this, good for Michael Sam! Sexual orientation has no bearing whatsoever on his physical ability as an athlete, nor should it even be a consideration.
