Points of Departure: Words and Expression
Howard dePass, Jr. (CAS’14)
As a Posse scholar, a resident assistant at Towers, and cohost of the Howard Thurman Center for Common Ground’s Common Thread podcast, Howard dePass, Jr. (CAS’14) is no stranger to public speaking. But the English major says he found his greatest passion for language through live performances of his rap and spoken word compositions at campus events sponsored by such organizations as UMOJA, the Harriet E. Richards Cooperative House, the BU West Indian Network, and BU Hip-Hop.
“Performing at BU really helped me to find my voice here on campus and express myself in a creative fashion,” dePass says, “and that’s been such a unique experience.”
