YouSpeak: HBO’s Smash Hit Girls

What’s behind its winning formula?

TV Guide calls it “fearlessly raw.” Rolling Stone says it’s “brutally funny.” And according to USA Today, it’s “a phenomenon.” They’re talking about HBO’s hit comedy Girls, which debuted last spring and just captured two Golden Globes, for best TV comedy and for best actress in a comedy.

Girls has earned a particularly strong following among college students, drawn perhaps by its frank depiction of sex or its bawdy, sometimes cringe-inducing humor. Or maybe it’s something else.

This week’s “YouSpeak” asks: “What is it you love about HBO’s Girls?

YouSpeak” typically appears each Monday.

This show manages to “exist” within NYC but lacks diversity.

Girls is a pretty crappy show, but Lena Dunham is worse.
