YouSpeak: Harlem Shake

Here today, gone tomorrow?

What began as a single video last month on YouTube featuring four Spandex-clad dancers rocking to Baauer’s “Harlem Shake” has exploded into the latest meme phenomenon. The original video has been viewed about 16 million times. At one point this month, more than 4,000 “Harlem Shake” videos a day were being uploaded to YouTube—there are now more than 12,000 versions on the site.

And yes, BU, like college campuses across the country, has gotten in on the act.

This week’s “YouSpeak” asks: “What do you think of the “Harlem Shake?”

YouSpeak” typically appears each Monday.

If you have a suggestion for a question you’d like us to ask, post it in the comments section below.

Harlem Shake = Urban rejoicing at its best
Just as the original harlem shake gave folks a chance to express themselves so will the new version. As an adult Bboy, I enjoy the various campuses around the country that decides to enjoy and capture the moments in these very important years, graduation is right around the corner, so “shake what yo mama give you” (it’s just a saying) while making sure that you and your peers are safe and look out for one another. Stay Phwresh!!! 1
