  1. I’m thrilled that BU has the most up-to-date technology, but it seems like SMG is the only school that gets these upgrades. As a non-SMG student, I feel like I’m being cheated out of resources that other schools need so much more than Business students.

    1. That’s a good point, Andrew, and kind of a Catch-22 for universities like BU. The simple fact is, schools like SMG have more generous donors, by virtue of the career path and resources available to its graduates. They give back to SMG, so those funds must be used by SMG. SMG students feel valued and well placed for success, so they feel a strong affinity for BU and SMG and give back to it, while students in other schools feel less valued, and therefore less inclined to give back.

Until something in that cycle gives, universities will continue to have disparities like this.

It’s a good reason for alums from other schools and colleges to recognize the value of BU and give back, so that future graduates of their school/college can have the very best, too.

      1. But why does it have to be completely on the alumni to give back, meanwhile students are paying $60K for tuition? With all the money BU is receiving, can’t it spread the value more evenly throughout the schools at BU?

I understand that SMG alumni will want to donate specifically to SMG itself, but for SMG students who pay full tuition, cant that money be used to pick up the slack everywhere else?
