Zumba on the Esplanade

Free class tonight

+

Fans of Zumba, the Latin dance–inspired fitness craze that has become a mainstay of gyms and dance studios everywhere, will have a chance to strut their stuff at a decidedly different venue tonight: the Hatch Shell on Boston’s Esplanade. The class is free and open to the public.

Fusing Latin rhythms and simple dance moves, Zumba is a high-energy workout that features interval training sessions with fast and slow rhythms combined with resistance training.

Tonight’s class is part of the new Healthy, Fit & Fun initiative run by the Esplanade Association. The nonprofit organization, dedicated to restoring and enhancing the Esplanade, has organized free events this summer to promote exercise and health. Teachers from different health clubs around the city are conducting classes and events—including group runs, yoga, and a fitness bootcamp—five days a week at the park, all summer long. All classes are held mid-morning or in the evening and are free and open to the public of all ages and abilities.

The Zumba classes are held on Tuesdays and are run by Healthworks, a franchise of women’s fitness gyms in the Boston area. Last week’s Zumba class had over 200 attendees.

The free weekly Zumba class on the Esplanade at the Hatch Shell begins at 6 p.m. Classes run through August 28. The classes are free and open to the public. Find more information online.
