    1. They’re being charged in Superior Court, which means it’s under MA’s Youthful Offender statute. That means they’ll tried and sentenced as if they were adults, and probably receive life in prison. They didn’t hurt anyone in their stupid little crime spree. I don’t think we should ruin teenagers lives forever so lightly. Better a bleeding heart than a yellow belly.

      1. Right, because robbing people at gunpoint isn’t hurting anyone.

They should have thought about the consequences of their actions before they went out and robbed someone. Excusing them for their crimes would be a disservice to the victims.

      2. They didn’t hurt anyone? How do you know this? Do you know for a fact that none of the victims of these vicious robberies are now experiencing PTSD symptoms?

If you say PTSD is not an injury, I would like to point to recent developments in the medical community that are now classifying PTSD symptoms as “Post Traumatic Stress Injury”.

So if any of the victims of these brutal robberies are experiencing Post Traumatic Stress Injury, I think these repeat offenders should be prosecuted to the maximum extent allowed by law.

  1. I think 5 years would be way too long sentence for a teenager. Surrounded by other criminals for such a long time, these teenagers will get a “degree” in how to become criminals on a long run.

  2. There are crimes where young perps get a slap on the wrist but sticking a (plastic) gun in the victims midsections isn’t one of them. Armed robbery doesn’t get the most sympathy from the courts. The three of them will do some hard time with the one who turned himself in getting the lightest sentence. That’s the way it should be.

It will be up to the three of them – along with help from their families – to continue down this road or change their lives for the good.

      1. Both your posts are misleading; the weapon used was a bb gun that looked like a real gun but I imagine it was flashed, not brandished, to hide this fact. However, threat of force is tantamount to use of force in contexts like this where result (duress, emotional trauma) is the same.

  3. in order to save you all the effort of reading through most of these comments i will sum up exactly the two types of comments this article will gather

“BU is not doing enough to keep us safe! BU should have known people would want to rob their students and put up a big wall around the BU campus. Shame on you BU!”

“These pour underprivileged kids are a confluence of their socio-economic backgrounds! Its not their fault they robbed people, it’s societies fault! Therefore the center for activism, unicorns and whiny college students will be holding a bake sale to raise money for their legal costs.”

    1. I agree. I think BU did well handling the situation and I trust our legal system to give a just sentence. Everyone needs to calm down and have a little faith in how the system works.
