New England International Auto Show starts today

+

If you’re in the market for a new car or just get goose bumps ogling a sleek metal torso, kick off the new year’s show circuit with the 2012 New England International Auto Show. Held for 55 years, this year’s show will display the latest in hot cars (Chevy Sonic, Fiat 500, VW Beetle, Subaru Impreza, Hyundai Veloster, and more) as well as electric vehicles (Chevy Volt, Toyota Prius Plug-in, and Nissan Leaf, to name a few) and sports and luxury models.

For those visiting their first auto show, the sponsors want you to know that almost every vehicle on the floor “is unlocked and available for your viewing, touching, and sitting pleasure. Feel free to fiddle with all the knobs, dials, and buttons. It will also be possible to test drive many of the new models around the convention center this weekend. If you’re seriously thinking about buying a new car, this is your chance to compare prices and features without going from lot to lot.

Visitors can also enter numerous contests, with prizes that include Red Sox and Bruins tickets, gas for life, and a motorcycle autographed by the Bruins team members.

The show runs today, January 12, through Monday, January 16, at the Boston Convention and Exhibition Center, 415 Summer St., Boston. Hours are noon to 9 p.m. Thursday and Friday, 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday, 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday, and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday. Admission is $12 for adults, $6 for children ages 6 to 12, and free for children younger than 6.
