There are 4 comments on The Buzz Around Eating Insects

  1. If vegans are opposed to eating insects, then they should also be opposed to conventionally grown vegetables, which use vast amounts of pesticides to kill insects. Even organic agriculture has an ongoing battle with pest control using other, non-chemical, forms of insect suppression. I think eating insects could be a great, sustainable alternative (or supplement) to meat consumption if they can be raised/collected with negligible environmental impact and presented to Americans in an appealing way. Bring it on!

  2. I ate termites off a tree in the Peruvian Amazon two years ago, they tasted a bit woody with a lemony zest — not filling, but certainly tasty!

What kinds of insects are prone to carrying diseases? In a recent BU Today article/vid about the archaelogical study of a brothel they said they studies worms and something else to see what diseaes might have afflicted the women at the time. So wouldn’t the risk of disease make eating insects more hazardous?
