Points of Departure: Spiritually Ravenous

Even before he knew he was going to BU, Tyler Sit knew that he wanted to go to seminary. “The call has always been the same,” he says. “To serve the world through ministry.”
As a freshman from Minnesota and an aspiring pastor, Sit (COM’11) found a spiritual home at Marsh Chapel, where he eventually became a Marsh associate and cofounded OUTlook, a ministry serving LGBTQ students. Sit says he has relished the many opportunities to explore his faith through conversation, whether abroad in South America or in his dorm room freshman year.
After graduating, Sit will pursue a master’s in divinity. He hopes to become a United Methodist minister and someday run his own church, something he’s wanted to do for nearly six years.
“My call to go in to the ministry has been especially strengthened by people who are really, really not Christian,” Sit says. “When I had to explain my beliefs to a fervent atheist, I became thankful that I could realize who I am and how my beliefs shape the way I see the world.”
