  1. Anyone else bothered by the fact that the police detained and demanded ID from someone based on no probable cause other than he was “young-looking?” I’m of legal age but if the cops ever stop me without a good reason, the only words out of my mouth (or yours) should be: “Am I being detained? Do you have a warrant? Am I free to go?”

  2. @anon1 If you are carrying alcohol in a public place in plain sight, there is enough probable cause for an officer to challenge your legal possession of that product within the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. Considering alcohol is a age restricted product, you must legally possess ID at all times when in public with said restricted item. Therefore an officer may challenge you at any time in public. If this were private property it would be a different story.

  3. @anon2: Do you have a legal cite?

I don’t believe there’s *any* requirement to carry ID in Massachusetts.

If you go to a bar or liquor store, employees are allowed to ask for ID, and refuse to serve you if you don’t show it to them. But if you’re over 21, and don’t have ID, and they don’t ask you for it, nobody broke the law.

  4. If you are old enough to die for your country, you’re old enough to have a drink. That’s my opinion and I don’t understand why more people don’t share it.
