A Taste of Fenway on Campus Tonight
BU’s Visiting Chef Series features Jerry Remy’s Sports Bar
In the video above, watch chefs from BU Dining Services and Jerry Remy’s Sports Bar & Grill collaborate on a dry run of the Visiting Chef Series menu being served tonight.
Tomorrow, in what is arguably one of Boston’s most important annual events, the Boston Red Sox open the baseball season at home, and adding to this year’s excitement, they are facing off against their nemesis, the New York Yankees. To mark the occasion, BU Dining Services is teaming up with Fenway restaurant Jerry Remy’s Sports Bar & Grill tonight, Thursday, April 7. The event? Dining Services’ once-a-semester Visiting Chef Series.
At dining halls across campus, students will be able to feast on many of Remy’s signature dishes, including the famed Jerry’s Ribs, Jerry’s Pulled Pork Sliders (pulled pork with a dry rub served with house slaw), and perhaps best of all, the Remy burger.
“It’s definitely the winner once you see it,” says Remy’s executive chef Jacqueline Kelly, showing off the restaurant’s burger in the basement of the GSU during a dry run for tonight’s event. “Two pieces of fried dough, an eight-ounce burger, cheddar cheese, bacon, and onions.”
Also being served, appropriately: Evil Empire Cheesecake.
Each semester for the past 16 years, restaurants ranging from Maggiano’s Little Italy to Eastern Standard Kitchen & Drinks have showcased a full menu of their appetizers, entrées, desserts, and even mocktails to BU’s 5,600 diners.
“Our goal is to give students the same experience as visiting a Boston-area restaurant without having to go there,” says Scott Rosario, Dining Services marketing director.
Tonight’s Visiting Chef event will bring the experience of opening day at Fenway Park to the dining halls in ways other than culinary. Red Sox mascot Wally the Green Monster will make an appearance at West Campus and Warren Towers during dinner, and students at Myles Standish Hall, Shelton Hall, and the Towers can have their picture taken in front of Fenway Park (courtesy of a green screen).
“I’m really excited about tonight,” Rosario says. “The menu is a great way to kick off the Fenway home opener.”
The Visiting Chef event, featuring food from Jerry Remy’s Sports Bar & Grill, is tonight, Thursday, April 7, from 5 to 9 p.m. at West Campus and Warren Towers and from 5 to 8 p.m. at Myles Standish Hall, Shelton Hall, and the Towers. Any undergraduate with a valid BU ID is welcome.
The Visiting Chef menu is being featured during lunch today in the GSU Faculty Dining Room from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Faculty, staff, and graduate students are welcome.
