Men’s Basketball Ends Season with Semifinal Loss
Coach Chambers’ first year ends at 21-14
Trailing 43-42, Virginia Commonwealth University opened the second halfwith an 8-0 run and never saw its lead cut below 5 as VCU beatBoston University, 88-75, in the College Basketball Invitationalsemifinals last night in Richmond, Va.
Terrier Jake O’Brien (CGS’10) tallied 20 points and JeffPelage (CGS’10) posted a career-high 13 rebounds, as the BU team ended its101st season with a 21-14 record.
The Terriers entered last night’s game having won 10 of their last 12 games, while VCU (24-9) had dropped only one home game all season. BU had already made America East history, becoming the first squad to win two games in a postseason tournament.
On March 17, BU made a cross-country trip to Oregon State for a dominating 96-78 victory, then returned home to host Ohio Valley Conference runner-up Morehead State on March 22, pulling out a thrilling 91-89 overtime win.
VCU now advances to the best-of-three championship series beginning Monday, March 29, against either Princeton or St. Louis.
