The food options on campus have expanded with the opening of Chipotle Mexican Grill at 876 Comm Ave. To mark its debut, the eatery offers free burritos today, from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.; at tomorrow’s grand opening the first 100 customers to purchase something after 3 p.m. will receive a free T-shirt and a free burrito card to use at a later visit.

Chipotle uses sustainably farmed ingredients and naturally raised pork and chicken, according to the restaurant chain.

“Voting with your fork is the best you can do,” says Chipotle marketing consultant Caitlin Leibert. “When you come in here and order a huge burrito, you are voting for sustainable food.”

Chipotle buys ingredients from a family farm produce program, and its building practices are green, the company says.

“All our materials, like the drywall, are recycled,” says Katherine Newell Smith, a spokesperson for the chain. “If you look at our chairs and tables, you’ll see it’s a basic plumbing pipe that’s used at the base of every table. Simple construction materials are used in a creative way.”

Chipotle Mexican Grill is at 876 Commonwealth Ave., across the street from the College of Fine Arts. Free burritos will be available today from 11 a.m. until 8 p.m.; order one and Chipotle will add a free fountain drink.
