The Timeline, the Year
Culling through some of the big stories since September

Universities measure time in semesters, which means that what most of the country calls Labor Day is more like New Year’s; the Earth takes 12 months to finish its round, but the campus takes 9.
Using this criterion, we now present an eventful year in review.
We turned out in record numbers to elect the nation’s first black president. The country entered a recession; the University responded, perhaps even predicted a bit, by imposing a hiring freeze. We celebrated our return to the national collegiate hockey throne, winning the Frozen Four — but later that month were rocked by news that a MED student was being charged with murder. And we dodged swine flu just in time to shake hands at Commencement.
Launch the timeline above for some of the highs (and lows) of the past year. And then — enjoy summer.
