They’ve made it all the way to the nationals, skating against the toughest competition in the East, making big sacrifices, sharpening their skates and honing their skills, coming together as a team and trying to peak at just the right moment.
The men’s hockey team? Well yeah, but not only them: we’re talking about BU’s figure skaters, amazing athletes who use the frozen surface to practice their art form-cum-sport with a grace and dexterity that the toughest hockey player would appreciate — maybe even envy.
As coincidence would have it, 23 members of BU’s Figure Skating Club are gliding through their final rounds of practice before traveling to Colorado Springs next week for the 2009 U.S. Intercollegiate Figure Skating Championships. And so with everyone on campus thinking ice time, it seems only right to celebrate a different creative take on lacing up skates — to remember that even in the rink, this community is diverse.
Today’s video does just that.
