Racing to Benefit Boston Medical Center

Dental student runs the Boston Marathon for BMC

Nicholas Miner is taking sibling rivalry to a new level.

After watching his brothers, Jeremy and Marcus, run the Boston Marathon in past years, Miner (SDM’10) is undertaking the 26.2-trek from Hopkinton to Boston on Monday, April 20.

"I will set my sights on crushing both of my brothers’ times,” says Miner, who admits that before he started training, his longest run was six miles.

Miner is motivated by more than just competition. He has committed to raising $3,000 as part of the team running to benefit Boston Medical Center, where he spends much of his time as a SDM student. The money raised will support the hospital’s mission to provide “exceptional care without exception.”

The Tucson, Ariz., native says that training in Boston’s rough winters was harder than he expected.

“I did my best to ignore the frigid temps, snow, and ice,” Miner says, “to achieve my goal of competing in this incredible event while helping fund a good cause.”
