There are 7 comments on Music Piracy, Take 2

  1. Several years ago I denounced a music piracy case caused by a NASA contractor and University of Maryland professor: Dr. Eric Vermote from France. This man used peer to peer technology to create CDs for third party distribution to his friends; the home computer lab he was using for his peer to peer activities contained a NASA computer keyboard and he was using his NASA based E-mail account to communicate with third parties about his amateur counterfeit CDs. NASA and the FBI did not take the case seriously and no legal action was taken against Dr. Eric Vermote to my knowledge. The RIAA has a lot of work waiting in my humble opinion (FROM: Damien Bizeau – International artist, Promoter and Producer, France).

  2. Holding ISPs responsible for illegal activities of their customers is totally unreasonable. It’s the reason why phone companies are not responsible for the illegal activities done over the phone. There’s far too much to put on surveillance. I agree with Bestavros’ suggestion about the one-time licensing fee. That could work, generate income for both the school and the RIAA. It wouldn’t solve everything, but at least it would reduce the damage.

  3. Azer Bestavros has some wonderful insights into this issue. I can’t help feeling music piracy has broader implications for how the internet is regulated. A difficult job.

  4. It is hard to fight piracy as it becoming common people download on the net. Specially when internet connection is so fast, people can get one song in a matter for seconds these days. Anyway, good luck for those law enforcement.

  5. ISPs are not responsible for that…. they are just offering services to mankind…. the main issue of piracy is cost that is very high …..
piracy can be controlled by cut down the cost …no other way to prevent piracy……
