There are 10 comments on Major Confusion

  1. No matter what job you end up with after college, do NOT give up the guitar (or your dreams of becoming a rock star). There will always be work to do, bills to pay, and debts to fulfill. But make sure you leave room for the fun stuff, like your guitar!

  2. as always young man i find your work to be well written and intriguing, and i feel it would connect to many of your peers on a personal level.

    OMG ITS BONO!!!!!!

  3. I’m a senior and finally happy but it was a rough road. Over the years I considered English, archaeology, switching universities to do architecture (because we don’t have that here), journalism, Earth Science, and even took the SMG transfer course before settling into Biology with a specialization in Ecology and Conservation. Talk about random. I feel your pain, but I agree that it was all worth it in the end, even though I was pulling my hair out all along the way.

Congrats on finally figuring it out, it’s a big step.

  4. In my four semesters of college so far, I’ve had four majors and attended 2 universities. I’ve gone through Nursing, Liberal Studies, International Relations, and Cultural Anthropology, and I think I’ve finally hit the right one. I strongly encourage experimenting and not letting anyone tell you that you have to stick with the first major you pick!

  5. Even Bono hasn’t confined himself to being a rock star. He’s very involved in international affairs and fighting AIDS. Most adults change careers several times before they retire. Use your under grad years as a time for exploration. You can specialize in something later in grad school. You should also do a summer or semerster abroad to widen your search even further!

  6. I switched 3-7 times depending on how specific you want to be. By the 3rd time, everyone was starting to look at me funny because they never thought I would settle. Well, now I’ve settled on something and it’s MY turn to be supportive — WITHOUT all those weird looks.
