In the video above, Deanna Cirino (CFA’10) talks about living in London and working in the West End..
“Being immersed in the London theater scene and a busy management office only confirmed the fact that this is the industry I want to be in,” says Deanna Cirino.
Cirino (CFA’10) spent last fall in the London Internship Program, studying at the BU London Center in South Kensington and working for a West End production company.
Theater management is challenging under any circumstances, but being abroad — even in an English-speaking country — really upped the ante. “My semester made me grow up more than any other life experience,” she says. “It was the first time I felt like an adult. Stumbling along through it all with new friends who were going through the same thing provided a special bond.”
Shadowing theater managers, working with actors, even being asked for her autograph were all part of the internship experience. “My internship solidified my plans,” Cirino says. “It showed me that I love the world of theatrical management.”
What comes next?
“I have one more semester left at BU, and have a couple of great jobs lined up, with the BU Theatre and the Community Service Center. Still, I remember London as this awesome chapter in my life that is kind of isolated as its own experience. I know it can’t be duplicated.”
