Although their hockey team was playing in DC, BU fans still flocked to Agganis Arena last night to support the Terriers.
“Watching the game at Agganis is our second-best option,” said Samantha Mindlin (SAR’11), echoing many BU students who couldn’t get to DC. Her early prediction also echoed most of the crowd: “BU is definitely going to win.”
Close to a thousand fans decked out in scarlet arrived at Agganis for the beginning of the semifinal game of the Frozen Four. While faculty, staff, and alums were invited, the crowd was overwhelmingly students. Rally towels were handed out to everyone walking through the door and were put to good use, waved five times for five goals. The BU Band pumped up the energy throughout the evening, playing the school Fight Song between raffles and giveaways, ice-skating, and free food.
After the Terriers’ victory, Dean of Students Kenn Elmore thanked the fans for coming and announced that Agganis would hold another watch party on Saturday night as BU faces Miami University in the NCAA final.
Not all the fans who came to Agganis to see the Terriers triumph were undergraduates.
“Agganis is just an exciting place to watch the game,” said BU President Robert A. Brown. “I wanted to watch with everyone — it would be no fun watching hockey at home alone.”4 Comments
