Student Leaders To Be Honored Twice Annually

Scarlet Key Society will add a fall induction ceremony

The Scarlet Key Society will add a fall induction ceremony this year, during Alumni Weekend, according to the Dean of Students Office.

The fall induction, on Thursday, October 22, will enable returning alumni members of Scarlet Key to attend. It also allows the University to recognize seniors who may be graduating a semester early or who will be studying abroad their last semester. Until now, only one ceremony was held, in the spring.

Scarlet Key, founded in 1938 and presented by the Dean of Students, recognizes outstanding graduating seniors who have made notable contributions to the University through their exceptional leadership qualities. Recipients are nominated by faculty and staff and are judged in five areas: leadership, commitment, representation, tradition, and academics.

Nominations for both the Scarlet Key Award and the Honorary Scarlet Key Award, given to faculty, staff, and alumni whose efforts to enhance student life go beyond their normal responsibilities, can be submitted on the Dean of Students Web site. Faculty and staff may nominate students for the Scarlet Key Award, and all University members may submit nominations for Honorary Scarlet Key Awards; both nominations must be received by 5 p.m. on Wednesday, September 30. Nominees not selected for induction in the fall will be considered for spring induction, along with new nominees.

The spring induction ceremony is scheduled for Thursday, May 13, 2010.
